Speaker: Claudia Gomez-Villeneuve, P.Eng, M.Eng, PMP, DTM, FEC, FGC (Hon.)

Speaker Biography:  Claudia Gomez-Villeneuve is a distinguished toastmaster, professional engineer, university professor, equity and diversity champion, and brand-new Fellow of Engineers Canada. She joined Toastmasters, a public speaking training organization in 2012, and she earned their highest designation (DTM, Distinguished Toastmaster) in 2019. Before switching to academia, Claudia worked at Enbridge managing petroleum pipeline projects for over 15 years eventually becoming Supervisor. The largest pipeline project she ever led had 100 people for a $120M petroleum tank farm complete with steel tanks, pumps, valves, meters, electrical infrastructure, and associated facilities. Today, she works in 5 different universities teaching pipelines, engineering, and project management in both English and Spanish.

Presentation Overview: Effective meeting facilitation is a highly undervalued skill in project management job postings and applicant resumes. When PMI articles extol the virtues of good communication skills in project management, we need to listen and either take training or remember the good practices we have learned. Good communication solves problems in our projects, whereas bad communication creates more problems (as if we need to create new ones)

In today's session, you will learn five (5) tips for effective meeting facilitation to help with your
small, medium, large, or mega project meetings

Presentation Learning Objective: Attendees will walk away with tools they can use to help their team

  1. Define & align their career aspirations with the project’s purpose
  2. Develop an understanding of themselves – how they solve problems, respond to challenges, communicate and are motivated
  3. Develop a personal transformation plan that works
