Just in time for the
Professional Development Day of this year. We have the pleasure to receive
Dr. Jenny Krahn who will give a talk on the Key Skills for Successful
Projects. Dr. Jenny Krahn is an assistant professor at the University of
Calgary. Her research and consulting focus on leadership and team issues.
She is a great presenter and provides a really fun session.

Additionally, we are
pleased to have 4 very insightful articles, courtesy of Michelle Labrosse,
from Cheetah Learning, and Peter de Jager, from
Technobility. I hope you will find these articles as interesting and
enlightening as I did. Furthermore, I would like to invite our members to
become authors for our newsletter. We always welcome high quality content on
the subjects related to project management.

Four Keys to the Science of Success
Every January, as we look ahead to the New Year, we think about our
success – both personal and professional. We write down our resolutions, but

Professionals by Definition
Ask a dozen Doctors of Medicine to describe/define
“Laparoscopic Surgery” and while you will receive back a dozen
verbalizations, you will end up with a single coherent
definition. Likewise, ask a dozen Professional Engineers to
define/describe a “Flying buttress” and once again, you will
receive back twelve articulations, which are obviously, even to
a non-engineer, referring to the same structure.

Seven Deadly
Sins of Project Management
Every list which attempts to select the best, or the worst,
of anything generates controversy. Why was that included? Why
wasn’t this on the list? Why isn’t that ranked higher. Yet lists
are useful because they’re an, albeit imperfect, encapsulation
of knowledge. So… ignoring the inevitable controversy, why do
projects fail?
